What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, loving, non-intrusive, intelligent energy source which can never cause harm, and targets any issues that most need healing. It always works in the interest of the clients highest good. The awareness that an unseen energy flows through all living things and directly affects the quality of a person’s health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. This life energy goes by many names: qi in China, ki in Japan, and prana in India. The ancient Hawaiians called it ti or ki. It has also been called orgone energy and elan vital, and science refers to it as biofield energy. Read more about Reiki in our brochure.

My Journey to Reiki
When I became interested in this gentle natural form of energy healing practice called Reiki, I realized that to a certain degree I had always been predisposed to various healing modalities with my Granny a Navy Nurse, my mother an RN and her brother, my uncle, an RN as well. Perhaps most influential was my Granny who’s combination of no-nonsense, practical and sometimes brusque – “lets get down to brass tacks” approach, combined with a gentle, genuine desire to ease the suffering of her fellow man struck me as both a truly noble as well as necessary pursuit.
My mother possessed all of these attributes and in addition brought her incredible empathy and huge heart to bear on the suffering of others, many referred to her as an “angel” bringing love and compassion to bear foremost in her healing practice. An area of particular interest to my Mother was the less traditional natural and homeopathic approaches to whole body healing. In retrospect, she was a pioneer of sorts into the less traditional and at that time not well understood modalities of healing using the gifts of nature. She was truly ahead of her time! My mother always told me that she was sure I would make a wonderful nurse. I never really shared this sentiment, until I was introduced to Reiki.
